Frequently Asked Questions

Who are you, and why should I care?

My name is David Larson. Most people call me Dave. I am 36 years old and I live in Seattle, WA. I currently work as a poker dealer at a small casino called The Red Dragon. It is a fun job, but it is hard to make decent money at it. I have in the past decade also been employed by Shurgard Storage and Kinko's Copies. Somewhere in there I was also an Optical Alignment Technician for Freespace Optics Transceivers at a place called Terabeam. That one was supposed to be my golden ticket, but 9/11 came along and sank that ship. (I love my mixed metaphors.) That horror show occurred at a time when we needed our product to be adopted by an increasing number of companies in order to survive, but in the run up to the never-ending war on terrorism that followed most companies froze their spending on new technology and we couldn't ride it out. I was let go in the fourth round of lay-offs. It was a blow to both my confidence and my bank account, I will admit. However, none of those jobs have had anything to do with what I consider my REAL work. Since 1990 I have run a small, independent record label called EXCURSION RECORDS, and through that I have released over 35 records and one full length feature film, to varying degrees of success. This is where the debt issue arises, and also where the story lies. Any maybe, if I am lucky, where the life lessons about and solutions to my money problems will be found. Once this site is complete I will have recounted the stories of how I started down this path, the bands and people I have worked with, the adventures we have had, and how they led me to where I am now. In the end you may not care, but you may well be entertained, and that will be enough for me.

That and $5.00.

Why should I send you money?

If I said, "Quite simply: Because I need it" - That might not be enough of a reason. I do need to knock down this debt to improve the quality of my life. I need to be in a place where I can offer more to those around me in the way of help and support when they need it. It has been a while since I felt like I could do that, and I hate it. But I am not just asking for a handout here. I am trying to provide at least some small service in exchange for a small contribution. Currently, that is the first page with all of the links, but there will also be an increasing number of items in the catalog section that will be available. (These items will, for the most part, be related to the STORY page of the site, and will be added in to the catalog at such time as they appear there.) Many of these items will be extremely limited or one-of-a-kind items. The proceeds from any of those sales will go towards knocking down the debt as well. I believe in working for my money, so I will work on this site and if you feel it's worth a few bucks to support it, so be it.

What if I don't have anything to put up as a link?

You don't have to put up a link to send in money, but if you don't have one and want one I can make it for you. See the CATALOG page for details.

OK, I'm sold! Is PAYPAL the only way to send you money?

Paypal is the easiest and fastest way, but I gladly accept money by regular mail as well.
Well concealed cash, checks, money orders, or anything else you would like to send can go to:

If you are mailing in money and are trying to claim any of the limited stuff in the CATALOG section, make sure to send me an e-mail ahead of time letting me know what you want so I can put it aside for you. (Davexc@aol.com)

Do you honestly believe that you are going to pay off some huge amount of debt by selling people $5.00 links?

Yes. Probably not. (I hope so?) Part of the point of this site, that will hopefully be more apparent as I start getting content up, is that I need to be more aware of the current state of my financial situation. I want to track my progress in paying my debt down in a creative way that will keep me involved. I am going to have to pay it anyway, so if I can get a little help to that end with this site, more the better.

Why don't you just declare bankruptcy?

Even if that were an option that was available to me (and I'm pretty sure that it is not thanks to recent personal bankruptcy law reforms) I would not want to do that if there were any possible other way to cover my debt. It's a matter of honor to me. I created this situation and I need to deal with it. And I need to believe that with hard work and dedication a debt like this can be paid back. Call me crazy. (You're probably not that far off.)
